Coco Avant Chanel September 13, 2009

Posted by Sean Welsh in reviews.

Went to see Coco Avant Chanel the other day. This is the story of the famous designer before she became a famous designer. Well made in French with subtitles. Coco grew up in a orphanage and started work as a seamstress by day and a singer by night. Attached herself to a rich man and eventually found her vocation refusing marriage and insisting on working for a living rather than being kept. There is relatively little on her fashion. This is there in embyro but is not a big theme of the movie. Most of the film story revolves around her two love interests and her strong desire for autonomy and to remove “meringues” from the heads of French women. A pleasant enough picture. Worth seeing though it is not necessarily a big screen picture.
